Finals' Question #5


Asialink Finance Corporation is one of the company that adopts MIS or Management Information System. MIS play a vital role of the company, the nature of the company is lending and through the years they have many branches all over the Philippines. Also Asialink Finance Corporation is a group of companies and they have different database intended for different type of transaction.

All of their transactions in AFC needs an MIS from the acceptance up to the releasing of loans, undergo different databases to ensure that the borrower has no negative record and make sure that they are capable of paying their borrowed amount. In communicating to their co-employee or their head officers they just use chatting, or mailing. Or in transfering of data to their head office they just send it through send file in YM or mailing.

Knowledge-based system

1. Knowledge-based system focuses on systems that use knowledge-based techniques to support human decision-making, learning and action it is a computer system that is programmed to imitate human problem-solving by means of artificial intelligence and reference to a database of knowledge on a particular subject. Also it based on the methods and techniques of artificial intelligence and their core components are the knowledge base and the inference mechanisms.

2. Knowledge-based system is the system that are capable of cooperating with human users and so the quality of support given and the manner of its presentation are important issues. In knowledge-based system the computer program uses an encoding of human knowledge to help solve problems. KBS are computer systems, contain stored knowledge, solve problems like humans would. And also KBS are AI programs with program structure of new type
knowledge-base (rules, facts, meta-knowledge), inference engine (reasoning and search strategy for solution, other services). While in Management Information System it is a planned system of collecting, processing, storing and disseminating data in the form of information needed to carry out the functions of management or in other words the MIS collects or encode data, analyze and convert it in information to be used by the top management in decision making or information management methods tied to the automation or support of human decision making.

3. Knowledge-based system enabled programs to tackle problems that were otherwise difficult to solve by the usual techniques of computer science. It imitate human problem solving by means of artificial intelligence and reference to a database of knowledge on a particular subject or it uses data, facts, and reasons about them in order to do something. Also Knowledge-based system improve the company's competitive advantage and organizational performance because it solve problems like humans would and it has inference engine or reasoning and search strategy for solution and it has intelligent information processing systems.

The Virtual Office

1. Virtual office is a term for shared office services, which normally includes business address, mail and courier services, phone services, fax services, answering services, web-hosting address, and meeting and conference facilities.Virtual office is also a common term for an environment that enables a network of co-workers to run a business efficiently by using nothing other than online communication technologies.


2. Virtual office has a provider it is a centralized office although the employees work at home or without physical contact with other employees it enables a network of co-workers to runs a business efficiently by using nothing other than online communication technologies. While in MIS Management Information System differs in different company or every company has their own MIS they are used to analyze other information systems applied in operational activities in the organization. MIS is a planned system of collecting, processing, storing and disseminating data in the form of information needed to carry out the functions of management. And the result is used in decision making of the top management.


3. Virtual offices are typically corporations and corporations typically are not defined with respect to geographic locality of employees. Virtual offices are a matter of degree since even in conventional offices, many business relationships are necessarily maintained across distributed environments, for instance, customers and suppliers are located at different sites, project co-workers are often located in different divisions, and other than online communication technologies . In both traditional and virtual office's the organization mission remains the same, but some business procedures change in the latter to accommodate collaboration at a distance. That is how Virtual Office improve company's competitive advantage and organizational performance.

Blog Question # 2


1. Decision Support Systems (DSS) are a specific class of computerized information system that supports business and organizational decision-making activities.


2. DSS or Decision Support Systems is a software-based system intended to help decision makers compile useful information from raw data, documents, personal knowledge, and/or business models to identify and solve problems and make decisions. While in MIS or Management Information System, it is an overall internal controls of a business like the application of people, documents, technology and procedures in solving business problems or to support of human decision making of the top managers, e.g. the decision support systems


3. DDS can improve the company's competitive advantage and organizational performance by solving specific problems, gathering information like inventory of all of the current information assets, gathering the comparative sales figures between one week and the next, projected revenues figured based on new product sales assumptions and the consequences of different decision alternatives, give past experience, and all of the information can be extensively used in business management like allocation of business resources that help company increase its sales.

Johnson & Johnson


Johnson & Johnson is a global America pharmaceutical, medical devices and consumer packaged good manufacturer. The MIS strategic plan of Johnson & Johnson is to make a vision, mission and goals also an objective on how to assess their consumer, to make a competitive advantage of the competitors and to assess the internal capacity of the organization and measuring and revising the plan as needed.

This strategic plan can be applied in the Phillipines they just assess the external environment, assess internal capacity and organization, developing a vision and a mission for the future, developing goals and objections - the actions - for reaching that future, implementing their plan and measuring progress and revising the plan, as needed

If they go in this strategic plan and implement it, this will be a great achievement of the company or its succes because it has a good impact for their customers - building good relationship and trust, their competitor - having a competitive advantage, and their company itself - maximizing resources and minimizing the cost, etc. that can be helpful to the company.
